The Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies married tennis with some of New Haven’s most delicious dishes at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale on Sunday night.
WTA players, including Dominika Cibulkova, Eugenie Bouchard, Kristina Mladenovic, Elena Vesnina, Daria Gavrilova, Daria Kasatkina and Lauren Davis joined the celebrations.
"It's always nice to get dressed up and do something fun at the beginning of the tournament," No.2 seed Cibulkova said. "I love food so it was great to try some of the delicious dishes and I loved seeing the view over New Haven at night."
Connecticut Open tournament director Anne Worcester said it was the first time Porsche presents Game. Set. Munch! had kicked off the tournament, which this year celebrates 20 years of women’s tennis in New Haven.
“A lot of our players were here and they were very relaxed,” Worcester said. “It’s just great ambience, with gorgeous views and a great DJ.”
The VIP experience brought tennis, food, spirits and music under one roof on the 19th level, where floor-to-ceiling windows showed off the most captivating, panoramic views of the city, Long Island Sound, and Yale University to diners.
“It’s the first time that we’ve hosted this with this fantastic view of New Haven,” Omni’s director of sales and marketing Dana Zimmerman said.
“All the players are taking photos and selfies of the sunset. They’re just really enjoying themselves.
“We are just having an absolutely fantastic night here at John Davenport’s restaurant and we’ve been working with our partners here, the Barcelona restaurant, the Cask Republic Republic and Wine Thief.”
